Matilda's of Ranelagh accommodation is located in the beautiful Huon Valley, Tasmania's southernmost municipality. Only a little over half an hour's drive from Hobart, this area comprises much of what people love about Tasmania - the forests, the farmland, the rivers, the local produce and the cool climate plant life.
There are always more reasons to stay longer....
The Huon Valley was long famous for the production of apples, and the remnants of this once booming industry are still visible in tucked away corners. With the town of Huonville at it's busy centre, the Huon Valley then spreads out in several directions. Turning right after entering the town will lead you into Ranelagh, through farmland and rivers, dotted with vineyards and churches. Had you turned left before the river, you would find the stunning waterways and creative businesses of Cygnet and the Channel area, with it's lovely touring routes and artist trails. Or you could head straight ahead and take the Highway across the river, down through the historic village of Franklin, the wood centre of Geeveston and further onto the quiet and sleepy towns of the far South. In the opposite direction along the highway, facing the magnificant Sleeping Beauty, you are led back into Hobart - an easy 40 minute drive. There is much to sample here, and the Huon Valley is the perfect base for exploring Southern Tasmania. See our "Thirty Reasons" page for ideas on how to enjoy your time here.
